Do you have trouble sleeping through the night, or wake up still feeling extremely tired?
Does your loud snoring wake your partner?
Is your physician-prescribed CPAP sitting in the closet because you are unable to sleep with it on?
Everyone should be able to get a good night’s rest, and our office knows how to help. After a sleep assessment, we can create easy-to-tolerate custom mouthpieces that can reduce or eliminate snoring and, in many cases, sleep apnea.
They are called Mandibular Advancement Appliances and can sometimes take the place of a CPAP, but almost always help reduce snoring.
If you have already been diagnosed with sleep apnea and just cannot get used to sleeping with a CPAP machine and mask, we have a simple alternative.
Call us to schedule a Sleep Assessment that includes a dental examination and a discussion about the benefits of our custom snore guard appliance.
The key to breathing soundly while you sleep is to maintain an open airway from the mouth and nose all the way to your lungs. Snoring occurs when the opening is slightly compromised, and sleep apnea occurs when it is greatly compromised or obstructed. Many times it occurs when people sleep on their backs as is shown in the photos above.
When most people sleep on their back, the jaw tends to slip backwards as your muscles relax and as the jaw moves back into your throat, so does your tongue. The appliance we make will maintain a better jaw position so that it does not move backwards to close or compromise the airway.
PLEASE NOTE: Only a certain percentage of patients can be treated with the oral appliance as many cases of sleep apnea are caused by other issues which must be addressed by your physician. We will always do our best to make sure you are a candidate and can be helped by a mandibular advancement appliance before recommending one for you.
