Where does the term “Jack O’Lantern” come from?
Technology News:
SHAPESHIFTING MICROROBOTS MAY REPLACE TOOTHBRUSHES
The basic toothbrush has been the go-to for patients to maintain good oral hygiene. The only significant change has been the addition of battery operated brushes designed to improve brushing habits and help those with movement disorders primarily. Well, make way for something brand new — shapeshifting robotic microswarms which can act as toothbrush and floss all in one.
A team of scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have been studying the new technology and report some promising results. We all know that routine oral hygiene care while straightforward, can be difficult for some and just boring for others. The effective, but tedious brush, floss, rinse and check is predictable but most patients go through the motions and don’t do an optimal job of keeping their teeth and gums in a healthy state.
The innovation with this technology is that the microrobots can accomplish all three steps at once, and it is fully automated, customizable, and the researchers hope, hands-free! The main work is accomplished through a system of iron-oxide magnetic robots that can work around crooked teeth as well.
When this technology arrives on the market, it may just be that game-changer we are looking for especially for those patients with disabilities or who are just a bit too lazy when it comes to brushing and flossing.
End of year dental insurance smarts
Despite our annual October reminder to make sure you’ve made good use of your dental insurance benefits, many patients still neglect to do so. Hence, we will always send out this reminder.
Dental insurance benefits are doled out on an annual basis, in other words, if you don’t use your 2022 benefits, you loose them. So, if you have pending dental work, try your best to come in and get it done before January 1st. It is far better to do that filling, crown or start your orthodontic care and utilize your present beneifts than to wait until January, when you will eat into your 2023 benefits.
Dr. Harkavy to add hours
We are very happy that Dr. Harkavy can now join us for the entire day on Thursdays. We know how many people ask to see her and this change will allow us to offer more options for you. While she enjoys all aspects of dentistry, we find that the “youngins” take a special liking to her. So, please bring in your children to see her for their dental care!
OH, and in a “by the way new”……
Dr. Strom is now a Grandpa! Photos coming. Benjamin David born on September 23rd. Mom, Dad, Grandma and Grandpa are all happy and doing just fine (-:
