Frequently Asked Dental Questions - Beverly Hills, CA

Your Reliable Source for Dental Information

When you are unsure about a specific treatment or you have questions about your oral health in general, you can always feel comfortable asking us for help. Educating our patients is a core part of our practice philosophy and we encourage you to take advantage of our wealth of knowledge while you’re here. With that said, here are a few of the most common questions we hear as well as our detailed responses!

How often should I be visiting for routine care?

Every patient is different and for that reason, we do not have a set standard for the frequency of dental visits, be they for dental work or for regular hygiene recall visits. Your hygienist, together with the dentist will recommend a personalized recall schedule. These visits are intended to confirm the presence of plaque, tartar and potential dental problems that may not have been visible previously as well as perform a detailed cleaning of your tooth enamel. Those undergoing gum therapy will likely need to visit once every three to four months.

Can you help me improve my smile’s appearance?

Absolutely! Our dentists are trained to perform many cosmetic services that address your specific concerns. For example, porcelain veneers are ideal for completely transforming your smile, while more targeted options like direct bonding focus on small issues like chips, cracks and discolorations. We also offer in-house and take-home whitening for those in need of flexibility for their cosmetic services.

My tooth hurts. Does it need a crown?

Not necessarily. If your cavity or tooth decay is minor, we may only need to perform a cleaning and place a custom-shaded, tooth-colored filling. However, if you already have a filling in your tooth or the damage is more significant, a dental crown may be a more appropriate option. We offer metal-free restorations to bring teeth back to their original luster with ease!

Is treatment available for gum disease?

If your gums are bleeding, tender, sensitive or receding, you likely have an advancing form of gum disease that requires professional intervention to treat. While our options include scaling and root planing, they also include targeted antibiotic therapy and other below the gum medicaments which can be applied painlessly.

Do I need braces to straighten teeth?

Not everyone needs to wear traditional metal braces for years on end just to achieve a smile free of gaps and crooked teeth or to improve the bite. Our dental office is happy to offer Invisalign a treatment that relies on clear plastic aligners to straighten teeth. The course of treatment is rarely more than 6 months and generally comfortable too.

I can’t stay asleep. What could be the cause?

While there are many ways to improve your sleep, there are symptoms to be aware of when it comes to chronic conditions like sleep apnea. For example, if you find yourself waking up with headaches or being jolted awake due to choking or gasping for air, there’s a chance you need dedicated treatment. Remember, loud snoring may be a common sign of sleep apnea, but it does not confirm you have the condition.

Is there a treatment for chronic jaw pain?

When excessive and/or uneven force is applied to the jaw joints, this can lead to long-term stress and discomfort in the jaw, head, neck, shoulders, and upper back. At our dental office, we may recommend equilibration, occlusal adjustments, or an occlusal splint to relieve discomfort. We also offer muscle massage and movement therapy to help stretch and strengthen the TMJ-related muscles.
